Lauridsen and RaminshMorten Lauridsen: Lux Aeterna Sunday, March 6, 2005, 4:00 PM The powerful emotions and the serenity of Lux Aeterna have been compared by some to Brahms’ A German Requiem. Lauridsen uses exquisite harmonic colors and fluid rhythms to express the feeling and meaning of the text “light eternal.” Magnificat of Raminsh is a personal, earthly expression in stark contrast to the majesty and pomp of Bach’s more familiar setting. For Raminsh, Mary (sung by a mezzo-soprano) is a real human woman, expressing joy, confusion, and awe at the sensations of life in her womb. Pamela Dellal, alto |
