American Soprano, Merrycarol Yumi Wada, is from one of New England’s treasured musical families.
Winner of the prized “Chancellor’s Talent Award “, she received a full scholarship form the University
of Massachusetts, where she studied with , Paulina Stark. There, she was a soloist with the University’s
Chamber Choir under the direction of Professor Wayne Abercrombie.
Ms. Wada's musical talents began to emerge at the age of four as she studied piano and violin with her
mother, Nancy Wada. During her teen years she played in the first violin section of the Worcester
Youth Symphony Orchestra, played the flute in the Thayer Conservatory Flute Choir directed by Paige
MacDonald, toured with the South Lancaster Academy Choir in the New England area and Canada
under the direction of Laurie Redmer and Eric Paris. She also toured with “Praise Hymn,” a select
singing group lead by Richard Anderson, throughout New England and Washington D.C.
Ms. Wada’s, soprano vioce has been praised by David Lasky of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette as
sweet, lyrical, natural, and technically agile. Ms. Wada has been heard as a soloist in sacred and
secular works, both in concert and opera, including: Bach’s Cantata no. 51; Mozart's Exsultate,
Jubilate Motet; Carl Orff's Carmina Burana; Handel's Messiah; Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of
Carols; Monteverdi's Vespers; the role of "mother" in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, and
"Angelina" in Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial By Jury.
She has appeared in performance several times as a soloist with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra under
the direction of her father, Maestro Toshimasa Francis Wada, has been a soloist with the Salisbury
Singers under the direction of Dr. Michelle Graveline, and also with a combined collegiate choir in
Worcester under the direction of Professor Lewis Curran and the late Professor Bruce Miller.
She currently enjoys collaborations at the First Church in Sterling under the direction of Ronna Davis,
and at the First Baptist Church in Worcester under the direction of William Ness.
