Annelies – James Whitbourn

St. Mark’s School, Southborough
Annelies is a choral dramatic work with a libretto by Melanie Challenger based on “Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl”. This will be accompanied by full orchestra with soprano soloist. The first major choral setting of “The Diary of Anne Frank” takes the teenager’s remarkable and penetrating observations, written whilst hiding in an Amsterdam attic, as the basis of its extraordinary and moving libretto. Whitbourn’s music creates a score “whose respectful understatement is its greatest strength” (The Times).
