Assabet Valley Mastersingers General Manager

Part-time work-at-home/on-site contract position (about 12 hrs/week as needed; annual contract $12,000)


The General Manager (GM) works collaboratively in partnership with the Artistic Director, the Operations Chair, volunteers, and the Assabet Valley Mastersingers (AVM) Executive Board Chair relative to facilitating and implementing the organization’s mission and objectives. Actual hours worked may vary considerably from week to week based on AVM performance schedule and timing of events. The GM needs to be available on-site for 3 concert weekends for performances in Shrewsbury, Southborough, Westborough, or Marlborough and two choir sings (August & December). They also need to be available for one rehearsal per concert cycle if needed (Monday nights). The GM needs to be a self-starter who is dynamic, organized, and with high interpersonal skills to work with a wide variety of volunteers.

 

Services Provided 
Maintains and provides oversight of a comprehensive task calendar to ensure timely completion by volunteers in the following areas:


Volunteer Coordination: 

  • Fosters and maintains a robust volunteer corps that includes not just vocalists but former vocalists, spouses, and members of the community at large

  • Assists the Operations Chair and Membership Chair to recruit volunteers

  • Supports volunteers’ efforts to get the best they have to offer

  • Collaborates and cooperates with, and supports a highly engaged volunteer corp in the realms of publicity, concert promotion, operations and fundraising

 

Concert Promotion and Coordination:

  • Facilitates the completion of rehearsal and concert venue contracts

  • Advises and assists a volunteer with program layout

  • Advises and assists with tasks related to concert publicity, including distribution of publicity material (e.g. press releases, online community calendars)

  • Coordinates Front of House at all concerts and special events, in person

  • Advises and assists in-person ticket sales, including a financial & funds reconciliation to the Financial Administrator

  • Advises and assists in providing a financial export on in-person credit card tickets to the Treasurer

  • Facilitates tracking of the publicity budget and spending, and provides financial reporting to the Treasurer


Fund-raising:

  • Advises and assists the committees that oversee annual fundraising activities

  • Attends in-person fundraising events

 

Media/Technology:

  • Advises and assists volunteers who perform:

    • Websites design and maintenance

    • Audio/video recording

    • Tech support for Marketing and Production of print media

    • Database management (for member, donor, sponsor data)

 

AVM Operations:

  • Advises and assists Operations Chair as necessary

  • Advises and assists designees of the Executive Board to improve policies and procedures, and to retain the same in the AVM digital repository of policies and procedures for AVM operations

 

Community Outreach:

  • Enhances AVM’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations

 

Reporting Requirements:

  • Provides a monthly invoice to the Board Chair and the Treasurer to review accomplishments for the previous month

  • Participates in a monthly meeting with the Board Chair and Artistic Director to review accomplishments, priorities, and plans

  • Provides a quarterly report to the Board prior to the next appropriate board meeting. The quarterly report will contain all information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions.
